Criticism is a simple art form, which claims to be well meaning and helpful. It takes no time at all to learn, yet the damage it can cause can be both long-term and irreparable... if we allow it to be so. And in those last seven words, "if we allow it to be so," is the DOGASH key to handling criticism. In general, we reap what we sow and what others sow into our lives if we allow it. They also say, "The pen is mightier than the sword." Therefore, the words we choose to write and speak in criticism are indeed mighty in their ability to slay esteem.

I called this chapter a 'criticism of criticism' because so often, what we see perceive as a criticism is in truth, an overuse of words. The 'critic' may be attempting to be clever, but misses the mark and is viewed as offensive.

Many wars are started because of words and misunderstandings, but unfortunately as we have seen all too often, words don’t end them; they just bring uneasy truces. From time to time, our words get us into more trouble than we intended or ever imagined.

As I was researching this topic, I came across some fascinating facts that will provide some light relief here and perhaps bring a smile to your lips:
