Yes, I was once a child and little did I realize then just how much the influences of my well-meaning peers would affect my attitude and my future. I do now!
Neither did I realize, as a parent, how much of my own childhood development and the adult imposed attitudes I inherited would affect the upbringing of my children and their development into adulthood. I do now!!
I am grateful that I still have the capacity to think as a child, for I can reflect upon the things that we do and say, the things that were said and done, and how all of this impacts family and self.
Believe me when I say, that as I was lying in my mother's protective womb listening to the gentle beat and rhythms of her heart, had I known what laid ahead of me, I would have refused to leave that safe haven. I would have stretched out my legs on the inner walls of her womb, hanging onto any organ within reach as I fought mightily against birth. I would have chosen to stay put! Nothing could have encouraged me to plunge headlong into this world - had I known! But I am out, and both of us are pleased about that.
